Love is in the air. Can you feel it? Valentine’s Day is the global celebration that signals the need for public displays of affection (PDAs) with our significant other. This usually results in flowers, gifts, candlelit dinners, and a warm embrace. We historically turn our amorous attention to our partners who share every aspect of our lives. But what about that special someone you keep on the side for special occasions? I’m talking about your dive buddy.

Whether your freediving problem is mental or physical, it’s probably much more common than you think. You might not know this, but every freediver has encountered a roadblock if they’ve been freediving long enough - some people have them initially, and others have them somewhere else down the line (no matter how ‘naturally’ freediving came to them at the start).

Six women and nine men representing Canada, the United States, China, and the United Kingdom gathered at Howe Sound in West Vancouver, Canada, for the seventh edition of the Howe Deep Competition. Seven of the 15 competitors were competing for the first time.

The two-day competition, hosted by Oceanoid, takes place on a dive platform anchored in 200m (656ft) of water just 500m (0.3mi) from the shore. Competitors enter the water at a nearby beach and swim to the competition area, and spectators are welcome to watch the event.
