AIDA Austria’s Hydro Dynamic 2024 freediving pool competition, which was held October 19 - 20, 2024, sees a successful conclusion and welcomes two new AIDA National Records for Austria and Hungary.

The Competition

The Hydro Dynamic pool competition is held in the suburbs of Vienna, central to many European countries. BSFZ Südstadt’s pool in Maria Enzersdorf allows nearly 50 athletes to compete in a shallow 31°C (87.8°F) pool for STA and a 50m pool with a constant depth of 2m for DNF, DYN, and DYNB. The world-record-status competition also serves as the Austrian Championship for DYN and DYNB.

The Hydro Dynamic competition was first organized in 2012. This 9th edition of the competition featured 44 athletes from 11 countries, with 18 first-time participants in the series and two first-time competitors. This year’s edition of the competition featured A-Level head judge Christian Foetinger and a 10-member certified safety team led by Su Wei Tran, who ran on-site testing to confirm safety skills and response time.

Although competition organizers faced a power outage and broken speaker system, both issues were solved quickly, and they delivered a well-organized, smooth, and safe competition to the large number of athletes.

Katrin Musil of AIDA Austria told Molchanovs, “The camaraderie and sportsmanship displayed by all participants were truly inspiring, and the enthusiasm and support made the event memorable and successful. We love the thoroughly positive feedback to our competition–be it our relaxed and professional atmosphere, the perfect pool, or our self-made, healthy buffet for athletes and helpers. Our best feedback is from the many repeaters and recommendations, which is why athletes from all over the world join us.

We are deeply grateful for the support from Molchanovs and all our sponsors and are looking forward to further collaborations to promote and advance the sport of freediving.”
