Wrap-Up of the 2024 Taiwan Mermaid Competition

Keelung City, Taiwan, 24 July 2024 - The second edition of the Taiwan Mermaid Competition, held by One freediving, has reached a successful conclusion.
Mermaiding has become increasingly popular in Taiwan, inspiring its citizens to hold mermaid competitions to promote the sport. The 2024 Taiwan Mermaid Competition saw 27 female athletes, 11 male athletes, and 8 group athletes performing mermaid routines underwater, with 31 athletes being first-time participants.
Competition safety was a priority, with 8 members of the safety team, two EMTs, and pure oxygen and medical equipment on standby. One freediving also provides training to athletes prior to competition.

Competition
The competition was held according to the MFI (Mermaid Federation International) mermaid competition system. Seven judges scored the mermaid athletes on their performances, with the score averages deciding the winners. Mermaids have a specific amount of time to conduct their performances (individuals have 4 minutes and groups have five minutes), where music is playing and mermaids perform underwater. This competition included adults (age 18+), kids (age 6 to 11), teens (age 12 to 17), and group (a team of 4 mermaids).Competition safety was a priority, with 8 members of the safety team, two EMTs, and pure oxygen and medical equipment on standby. One freediving also provides training to athletes prior to competition.
